About ATW
About Actors Theatre of Windsor (ATW): Overview
As a non-profit cultural institution, ATW is an artistically driven theatre, first and foremost, to achieve the goal of producing a commercially viable and sustainable professional season; it is both an artistic incubator and a commercial venture. Contributions from government agencies, corporations, foundations and individuals enable ATW to keep ticket prices affordable while sustaining the highest artistic integrity.
The public programming of Actors Theatre of Windsor (ATW) has two core components: ATW Main Stage and Actors Umbrella.
ATW Main Stage
The Main Stage is the professional theatre company which produces ATW’s season of shows. Since inception in 2006, ATW has focused on developing the organizational and financial foundation for our first ATW Main Stage season in 2010/2011.
ATW produces their professional shows under the auspices of Canadian Actors Equity Association (CAEA) which is the professional union representing performing stage artists, directors, fight directors and stage managers in Canada.
Actors Umbrella
Actors Umbrella is the community outreach arm of ATW. Actors Umbrella is committed to access to information and resources in order to sustain the growth of the theatre community at large, as well as developing the foundation to support paid professional theatre produced with paid artists, crew and production staff.
Actors Umbrella initiatives involve ATW taking a leadership, support or behind the scenes role on a number of strategic outreach projects:
- Producing the Windsor International Fringe Festival;
- Theatre Training Camps, Classes, Labs, and Master classes;
- The Gail Ray el Baroudi Grant for Children’s Theatre. Former recipients include: Korda Productions for Queen Victoria Students and Children in Shelters; Benson & Victoria School Students 2007 to see Riverfront Theatre’s Peter Pan; L’Essor Secondary School and L’Envolee for ‘Shavirez le tsigane des mers’); Riverfront Theatre Company to for Professional accompanist for their children’s production of “Free to Be You and Me”.
Established in January 2006, Actors Theatre of Windsor intends to be a cornerstone of the development of a viable entertainment industry in Southwestern Ontario and South Eastern Michigan.
